Torch Igniter for RP1/LOX Engine
Description: The Methane-Oxygen torch igniter was developed as a potential replacement for the current APCP igniter used by MASA, a University of Michigan rocketry team, to ignite its RP1/LOX rocket engines. After a successful testing campaign of 10 hotfires lasting 1.2 seconds each, it was determined that the igniter boasts an impressive 35% increase in ignition reliability over its APCP counterpart and should be used on future engines.
